The Public Health Role


General Submission Guidelines

  • Abstracts should focus on the role of public health in cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliation issues.
  • We invite both programmatic and scientific abstracts.
    • Programmatic abstracts describe the development and/or implementation of a program, coalition, other public health initiative for cancer prevention and early detection, program evaluation effort, educational initiative or a communications or outreach/inreach project.
    • Scientific (research) abstracts describe the use of qualitative or quantitative research methods to answer a research question.
  • Abstracts must be in English.
  • Abstracts should describe original work.
  • An individual may submit more than one abstract.
  • Both oral or poster presentations are allowed. Oral presentations will be 15 minutes in length with an additional 5 minutes allotted for questions and answers.
  • The submitter is strongly encouraged to compose the abstract text in his/her own word processor before submitting it online. Be sure to check spelling, word count, and conformance with the guidelines given below.
  • Final acceptance is conditional upon registration of all presenters.

Abstract Requirements

  • The abstract text must conform to a standard structure, including each of the headings listed below, depending on the form of the abstract (scientific or programmatic). Each heading should be followed by a colon.

    • Background/Purpose
    • Study Design
    • Study Population & Setting
    • Method of Analysis
    • Findings
    • Conclusions
    • Implications for Cancer Control and Early Detection
    Programmatic Abstracts
    • Program Purpose
    • Assessment of Need
    • Strategies
    • Evaluation Approach
    • Program Outcomes
    • Implications for Practitioners
  • In total, the abstract text must contain no more than 275 words. No images, charts, or tables are allowed.
  • For each presenter please provide: name, degrees, job title and mailing address, email address, phone number, fax number, education, professional experience, and conflict of interest disclosure,
  • For all other authors you need only provide name and email address.
