Conference Goals

• Explore science, policy, education, program planning, implementation, and evaluation to enhance public health approaches and strategies to prevent and control diabetes.
• Increase knowledge and awareness of successful, cost-effective, public and private diabetes programs.
• Present innovative strategies to increase awareness of diabetes and how to prevent its complications.
• Provide opportunities for skill-building, information-sharing, and networking.

Categories:

The Conference Planning Committee encourages you to submit abstracts that address specific issues, approaches, or strategies that contribute to diabetes control and prevention.

Partnership/Collaboration: Abstracts describe the development, maintenance, and evaluation of partnerships and collaborations. Give example of what constitutes an effective partnership and collaborative effort. Discuss the achievements, challenges, and lessons learned concerning partnering and collaborating. Primary Prevention: Abstracts focus on activities that target people at high risk for developing diabetes. Policy and Legislation: Abstracts describe policies developed and implemented to improve the lives of people living with diabetes. Epidemiology, Surveillance and Research: Abstracts show strategies for the development and implementation of surveillance or research systems, studies, and program evaluation. Communication, Media and Technology: Abstracts demonstrate effective approaches to raising awareness, improving health literacy, and reaching priority populations. Public Health System Improvement: Abstracts show examples of patient and provider practices and policies that improve the quality of diabetes care and treatment. Disparities: Abstracts demonstrate strategies and projects to improve health disparities. Miscellaneous

General Submission Guidelines

• Abstracts must be in English.
• Abstracts should describe original work.
• An individual may submit more than one abstract.
• You are strongly encouraged to compose the abstract text in your own word processor before submitting it online. Be sure to check spelling, word count, and conformance with the guidelines given below.

Abstract Guidelines

• The abstract text should be divided into separate paragraphs corresponding to the following headings:
  • Background
  • Objective(s)
  • Method(s)
  • Result(s)
  • Conclusion(s)
  • Learning Objective(s)
  (Each paragraph must be entered separately in the online form.)
• In total, the abstract text must contain no more than 300 words. No images, charts, or tables are allowed.
• For each presenter please provide: name, degrees, job title and mailing address, email address, phone number, fax number, education, professional experience, and conflict of interest disclosure,
• For all other authors you need only provide name and email address.

Evaluation Criteria

• Presentation: should relate to one or more of the abstract topics and meet the overall goals of the conference.
• Purpose/objectives: should be clear and well described.
• Work should be performed using rigorous scientific methods (scientific/epidemiologic related submissions) or should have appropriate program planning and evaluation methods (programmatic submissions).
• Results or outcomes: the study interventions should be described in the abstract and be relevant to conference participants.
• Topic: should be of significant public health importance and the process described must be applicable to a range of issues related to reducing the burden of diabetes.
