Are Providers Prepared to Deliver Yellow Fever Vaccine Effectively?

Learning Objectives for this Presentation:

By the end of the presentation participants will be able to:
1. Describe the unique challenges in provider education related to Yellow Fever vaccine administration.
2. Identify the process utilized to determine the Provider's preparation for administering Yellow Fever vaccine in Colorado.
3. Review the improvement steps implemented by the Colorado Immunization program to improve the Providers ability to administer the Yellow Fever vaccine.


Background:

Yellow Fever vaccine is routinely administered to international traveler's who will be at risk for the disease based on their travel itinerary. Yellow Fever vaccine has associated significant risks that must be considered prior to vaccine administration. Yellow Fever vaccine providers are authorized by the State of Colorado to administer the vaccine in both private and public agencies.

All Yellow Fever vaccine providers


Project Description:

Colorado initiated a survey of all authorized Yellow Fever vaccine providers to assess the current level of preparation related to the vaccine administration. Providers were required to complete the survey to maintain their status as an authorized provider.


Results/Lessons Learned:

Providers identified varying levels of preparation. Providers would benefit from state resources for vaccine information and consultation.
