B4: B4 - Enhancing Hepatitis C Prevention in Syringe Exchange Programs

This session will provide two examples of involving academic institutions in hepatitis C prevention activities that take place as part of syringe exchange programs. The advantages being (1) providing medical attention to underserved groups, (2) adding practical experience to an academic curriculum, and (3) saving valuable program monies.
Learning Objectives: A. Outline strategies for hepatitis prevention for infants, children, adolescents, and adults. B. Identify specific intervention strategies that address the needs of individuals in high-risk groups including, but not limited to, infants born to HBsAg-positive mothers, clients engaged in injection drug use (IDU)/substance abuse, clients in STD/HIV clinics, men who have sex with men, homeless populations, and inmates in correctional settings.
