P3: PL3 - Progress Toward Reducing Perinatal and Childhood Viral Hepatitis

This plenary will review the progress and next steps towards reducing perinatal and childhood hepatitis B infections from national and local perspectives. Reduction of childhood hepatitis A will be discussed through a review of hepatitis A epidemiology and the rationale for routine childhood immunization.
Learning Objectives: A. Outline strategies for hepatitis prevention for infants, children, adolescents, and adults. B. Identify specific intervention strategies that address the needs of individuals in high-risk groups including, but not limited to, infants born to HBsAg-positive mothers, clients engaged in injection drug use (IDU)/substance abuse, clients in STD/HIV clinics, men who have sex with men, homeless populations, and inmates in correctional settings.
