23219 Faith Based Education Program to Reduce the Onset of Type 2 Diabetes Among African Americans

Objective: :  To utilize a faith based program to implement an education program that is culturally relevant for African Americans aimed at increasing overall knowledge of diabetes risk factors.

Methods: ;  Twenty African American participants with a family history of diabetes or any of the risk factors identified by the American Diabetes Association may choose to participate in the project.   The ADA risk assessment will be used as a screening tool for inclusion into the project.  Participants will be given a twelve item questionnaire as a pre and post test to obtain baseline knowledge and changes in knowledge after participating in a two session teaching program.
