Biographical Sketch:
Involved in diabetes care and education for thirty years. Nurse practitioner in Grady Memorial Hospital's diabetes unit. Seventeen years at CDC Division of Diabetes Translation. Interests include social justice and health disparities, cross-cultural applications of science through stories and art, and community health worker roles in diabetes care and education. Focus on community organization and public health approaches to prevent diabetes and its complications, particularly in indigenous populations. Particular interest include the role of community health workers in diabetes prevention and health promotion, ethnographic studies to support traditional ways of health promotion, and health communication avenues. Publications include: formative research in development of health communication messages, systematic review of community interventions for diabetes prevention, ethnographic study of health promotion and diabetes prevention wisdom in Northern Plains community.
