Biographical Sketch:
Deneris opened a full-scope midwifery practice in Salt Lake City in 1984 and completed her doctorate in health education in 1987. She joined the faculty at the University of Utah in 1990, where she continues to teach today, and was awarded the ACNM Award for Teaching Excellence in 2005. She is an active presenter at clinical meetings, on topics as wide-ranging as genetics to malpractice issues.She is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Midwifery & Women's Health and Health care for Women International.
Deneris served on the Utah Nurse-Midwifery Licensing Board for 21 years, and served as the board's chairperson for 13 years. Deneris is an ardent advocate for midwifery, and actively lobbies her state legislature on issues regarding women's health and reproductive issues.
