Biographical Sketch:
2008-2009: ESRD Prevention Program Coordinator, Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), Austin, TX. Develop, implement, evaluate social marketing campaign; provide staff support for Texas Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force; collaborate/partner with national, state and community organizations to provide education and outreach; research and write reports to legislature, articles for newsletters, content for website, webinars, powerpoint presentations for professional conferences, and scopes of work for contracts; provide consultation/technical assistance to community diabetes projects and chronic disease program staff; serve on interagency and intra-agency workgroups and committees.
2005-2008: Program Specialist, Genetics, DSHS. Conducted research, analysis and interpretation of federal and state legislation and regulations to develop program rules, guidelines, policies, procedures, and tools for program monitoring and evaluation. Developed Title V Policies and Procedures Manual and Newborn Screening Benefits Procedures Manual for providers. Provided oversight of genetics contract procurement, management and monitoring. Provided technical assistance to contractors and conducted on-site reviews. Provided staff support to governor appointed Genetics Council.
2003-2005: Program Specialist, DSHS. Analyzed/interpreted federal and state legislation to develop/write program policies and procedures for the Newborn Hearing Screening (NBHS) program. Coordinated certification process, provided technical assistance and monitored NBHS programs at over 200 hospitals. Collected and analyzed aggregate data on newborns screened for hearing loss. Served on numerous intra-agency coalitions.
1998-2003: Program Administrator, DSHS. Managed Alzheimer’s Disease, Osteoporosis and Prostate Cancer programs, councils and committees. Planned/implemented statewide conferences and strategic planning symposia. Wrote newsletters, newspaper articles, reports to the legislature, funding proposals, and contents for program websites. Developed/focus tested/disseminated social marketing materials and tools. Wrote program policies and procedures. Provided technical assistance to chronic disease staff.
1986-1996: District Program Director, American Heart Association, San Antonio, TX. Provided oversight for educational programming in South Texas. Recruited, trained and managed professional volunteers to plan, conduct and evaluate programs for businesses, schools, healthcare and community sites.
