Responsible for developing community health initiatives using EMS personnel (1997-present), including diabetes prevention program implementation for public safety personnel.

Recently completed 3 month qualitative study of two online communities with Web 2.0 features with discussion forums dedicated to type 2 diabetes. Web 2.0 features included an online profile for members, photo sharing, access to online social networks (friends) and personal blogs. Observed three months of online discussion forums and online activity on a sample of member profiles. Study revealed the types of discussions occurring in an unmoderated environment, the types of social support available to members, and implications for future interventions for type 2 diabetes.
