Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Tucker is Lead Health Scientist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Florida A & M University, completed her M.P.H. degree (1986) in health policy and management at Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University and her Dr. P.H. (2002) in maternal and child health epidemiology from University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her career in public health spans from that of a state- and community-based public health nurse to a national consultant on health disparities. Her professional and scientific interests include maternal migration status on birth outcomes, evaluation of community-based strategies addressing health disparities and the cultural competency of coalitions focused on racial and ethnic health disparities. Dr. Tucker’s recent publications have addressed a range of pubic health issues including evaluation of community diabetes interventions; health literacy among African Americans with diabetes; challenges in promoting community health; the national evaluation of the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health program; job stress among female blue-collar workers; intervening on the social determinants of cardiovascular disease and diabetes; Surveillance for health status in U.S. minority communities; and effects of regional mobility on birth outcomes among US-born women.
