1996-1999 Epidemiologist and Evaluation Lead, New Mexico Diabetes Control Program, New Mexico State Department of Health, Santa Fe, NM: PI on a diabetes prevention study among New Mexico middle school students, this study was conducted to assess the association between Acanthosis nigricans and hyperinsulinemia. Additionally, analyzed, interpreted, and disseminated diabetes registry data to evaluate diabetes care improvement efforts in 14 primary care clinics.
1994-1996 -- Islamabad, Pakistan: Evaluation lead to assess the quality and delivery of services at the crisis intervention center. Established partnership with the medical community and trained medical staff to recognize signs of domestic abuse and to educate the victims of domestic violence on services.
Designed and conducted community survey and trained community health workers to assess child immunization coverage and use of family planning methods among women living in shanty towns of Islamabad. Conducted a number of HIV/AIDS prevention workshops for community healthcare workers.
1993 – 1994 ---Epidemiologist, New Mexico State Department of Health, Hantavirus surveillance lead, Author or coauthor of numerous publications and book chapters primarily relating to chronic diseases.
February 1992 – February 1993, Epidemiologist, Office of HIV/AIDS, Division of Disease Prevention, Arizona Department of Health Services: Conducted the Arizona statewide surveillance project “Supplemental HIV/AIDS Surveillance.” Trained interviewers, supervised data collection, analyzed the data, and developed technical reports for CDC.
