Immunization Registry, Requirements Analysis
BACKGROUND:
CHILD Profile, Washington State’s Immunization Registry and Health Promotion System, began a comprehensive Requirements Analysis in the Summer of 2002 to ensure that the current system could continue to support future development and changing technology. Requirements were gathered through interviews with several stakeholder groups including providers, health plans, local health jurisdictions, and immunization program staff. The functionality within current system was compared to documented requirements and used as a baseline for comparison of alternative approaches. The alternative approaches included modifying the existing system, purchasing a registry product, or purchasing registry modules to replace or augment existing registry functionality.
OBJECTIVE(S):
To define and establish a common understanding among stakeholders regarding the current and future technical and functional requirements; and to assess alternative approaches for meeting the defined requirements.
METHOD(S):
We used a requirements collection and analysis process, and the services of an outside consultant, to develop a requirements analysis and recommendation report which included detailed current and future requirements, a comparison of each alternate approach to the requirements, and a recommended approach that will position our registry to better meet the needs of our customers.
RESULT(S):
Preliminary or final results recommending how to best meet near-term needs for Washington’s Immunization Registry are expected by the time of this presentation.
CONCLUSIONS(S):
This analysis is critical to the on-going success of Washington’s immunization registry to continue to reassess stakeholder needs.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Participants will be able to describe the importance of reassessing and documenting stakeholder requirements and using the documented requirements to set the future direction of the registry.
