BACKGROUND:
The Arizona Registry, ASIIS, uses GIS to identify pockets of need. Training is offered to private providers and staff within pockets of need, and proximate to the practice. New strategies and registry features are presented to eliminate barriers to immunization in practice settings.
OBJECTIVE(S):
Remove barriers to immunization within private practice settings, improve immunization reporting to registry and introduce new registry features and strategies to improve immunization outcomes within pockets of need.
METHOD(S):
A training curriculum is used to train front office clerks, back office nurses and medical assistants and at least one physician for each participating provider's office. The training includes strategies that address customer service techniques, parent concerns about vaccine safety, registry tools, assessments, Vaccines for Children reporting, reminder-recall, and a review of laws and regulations effecting immunization providers.
RESULT(S):
All participants indicate a very high (95%) satisfaction with the training citing good information, excellent speakers and comprehensive supporting information. Follow- up strategies have also increased enrollment and participation of private practices in the registry.
CONCLUSIONS(S):
Private providers respond to local concerns about underimmunization. Comprehensive training offered in a team approach to office staff is well received when made convenient and accessible. Good resources for follow up assist practices in using new strategies for immunization delivery in pockets of need.
