KEYWORDS:
Immunization Registry, Registry use, user survey, Strategic planning

BACKGROUND:
ImmuLink is a secure immunization information service initiated in 1994 by the Hennepin County Community Health Department. It is populated with birth certificate data from children born throughout the State of Minnesota. Immunization data is electronically sent from private and public healthcare providers and schools. This data is automatically linked to existing records, or new records are created for those individuals not already in the system.

OBJECTIVE(S):
To better understand what Immunization Registry users want by conducting a survey among current users of ImmuLink.

METHOD(S):
A mail survey was conducted in May 2002 among users of ImmuLink. Several users at each clinic were solicited to participate in the survey. Questionnaires were returned to the Hennepin County Community Health Department anonymously for tabulation and analysis.

RESULT(S):
Based on the results of the survey, there are certain types of reports that users think are necessary to have and specific features that are valuable. In addition they identify some immunization/personal information on reports that would be considered as necessary while other information is regarded as inappropriate. It also provided a good indicator of how sites wish to submit their data.

CONCLUSIONS(S):
The best way to determine how to enhance a software product is to find what is valuable to current users. Patterns in survey results provide guidance into what directions to consider in Registry product enhancement.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
To gain insight into what users find valuable in an Immunization Registry through an anonymous mail survey.
