BACKGROUND:
Consistent provider participation and data submission is a key element in maintaining an effective registry. ALERT developed a marketing plan to get inconsistent users to increase their level of participation, and to design effective ways to communicate the benefits of ALERT to this audience.

OBJECTIVE(S):
To illustrate how a targeted marketing effort can increase provider participation and data submission among clinics participating inconsistently.

METHOD(S):
Use ALERT data to define and identify inconsistent users. Conduct key informant interviews with approximately 27 clinics identified as inconsistent users. Use key informant interview results to determine new or unidentified issues with participation, craft marketing message, and develop materials to promote provider participation.

RESULT(S):
By Ocotber 2002, we will be able to report on the success of this approach. Based on initial feedback and research, we expect that the use of these marketing messages will encourage inconsistent users to more regularly participate.

CONCLUSIONS(S):
It is a benefit for registries to have a plan for marketing outreach as a means of improving or maintaining provider participation.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Become familiar with a marketing approach to increase provider participation.
