KEYWORDS:
data quality, data use
BACKGROUND:
Oregon Immunization ALERT has been receiving immunization records via barcodes since 1996. Other methods of gathering data from Health Insurance Plans and Clinic Billing systems have also helped populate the registry. ALERT now has over 15 million immunization records.
OBJECTIVE:
Measure and validate the completeness and accuracy of a sample of registry data against external sources.
METHOD:
Two different samples have been examined: first, as part of an AFIX project, chart data were linked to registry data for providers in one geographic region. In the second case clinic that previously submitted barcodes and has since converted to electronic transfer of data will also sample data from patient charts.
RESULT:
To be presented at the conference
CONCLUSION:
As part of continuous quality assurance, registries and immunization programs can engage the provider community to help validate random samples of immunization histories with charts. This can be integrated with the AFIX process as well as periodic cross-checking of electronic imports into the registry.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
To understand methods of validating registry data with external sources, and incorporating these activies within
registry and immunization program goals.
