GRITS - The Innovative Challenges

Tracy Ingraham / Mrs and Thomas Moss. DHR/DPH/Immunization Program, State of Georgia, 2 Peachtree Street NW, MS 13-476, Atlanta, GA, USA

KEYWORDS:
Innovative Approaches to Solving problems with Adult ACIP Schedule, Combination Vaccines, Age limitations, opted out restrictions, and Inventory Management

BACKGROUND:
The Georgia Immunization Registry, GRITS, has an age restriction of up to age 18and is an Opt-Out Registry. The State of Georgia licensed with the State of Wisconsin to use the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) as the baseline application for developing the GRITS.

OBJECTIVE:
Create an innovative solution that would allow the inclusion of all immunization transactions to be incorporated into the inventory management functionality of the registry without revealing the identify of the recipient of the vaccine if over the age of 18 or if opted out of the registry.

METHOD:
Team Brain Storming Sessions, The Design Document process, The Test Plan execution.

RESULT:
A method to identify Opted Out Clients and Clients over the age of 18 without storing demographic information on the Immunization Transaction but retaining the information necessary to identify the inventory location, vaccine trade name and lot number, and other inventory management information was identified.

CONCLUSION:
It can be accomplished through innovative thinking and resourceful programming.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Using the resources available to you, create opportunities to grow and improve the benefits of your registry to your partners and stakeholders in your state.
