Registry Certification - Are you ready for this?

Robert Conn, Scientific Technologies Corp, 67 E. Weldon Avenue, Suite 110, Phoenix, AZ, USA

KEYWORDS:
registry certification
registry standards

BACKGROUND:
Immunization Registry Certification, based on recommendations by the NIP Technical Working Group (TWG), can provide many benefits to the program and simply working toward attaining certification is a worthwhile effort. There are challenges to the endeavor and the preparation requires close examination of the electronic system capabilities as well as policies and procedures related to operation of the registry. The certification process measures the attainment of these standards.

OBJECTIVE:
Participants of this session will leave with at least a general idea of their readiness for certification, as well as the tools necessary to begin planning for certification readiness.

METHOD:
Online survey of registry managers

RESULT:
Compilation of survey indicates levels of perceived readiness for certification by registry managers. Clarification of attainment of the standards for certification.

CONCLUSION:
Registry certification can be of great benefit - even if certification is not attained, the process of working toward certification will help to ensure standards are being met.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. The benefits of working toward (and hopefully achieving) certification
2. Common challenges other registry managers have identified
3. Why some of the standards may be difficult to achieve in spite of best efforts
4. What other registry managers are planning in regard to certification
5. Establishing the plan for certification preparation
