D10: Connecting the Vaccine Safety Efforts and Immunization Information Systems: A Health Partnership
This session presents the experience of different states to connect vaccine safety efforts with Immunization Registries. It will discuss reporting done to the VAERS system (Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System.) It will provide examples from California that demonstrate how Immunization Registries and VAERS can be connected. It will look at the ways that the safety of smallpox vaccine was monitored through data collection.
Learning Objectives: The participant should be able to summarize recent activities that relate immunization systems to vaccine safety efforts, which include VAERS reporting, and vaccine studies. Participants should also be able to generalize how these presentations can be applied to local settings.
