The recruitment and implementation of Immunization Registries into Hospital Based Health Care Systems

Maureen K. Murphy, Katie Reed, Amanda Wilson, Amanda Smith, Susan Anderson, and Laurie Kenyon. Partners In Health Systems, PO Box 249, 5789 Widewaters Parkway, Dewitt, NY, USA

BACKGROUND:
: Implementation of registries involves working in many different clinical environments and each environment requires its own unique implementation model. One critical environment to registries is hospital based health care systems. In the deployment across New York State, PHS has developed a multi-tiered model to work with this complex environment. Without this comprehensive model successful implementation of a hospital based health care system is jeopardized.

OBJECTIVE:
Illustrate model utilized for successful implementation of a hospital based health care system.

METHOD:
This model addresses many different facets such as recruitment, data structure and data exchange, tiered staff/clinic orientation and training and ongoing support.

RESULT:
The model was developed as a result of PHS’ experience in the successful recruitment and implementation of numerous hospital based health care systems. This success hinges on the registry staff facilitating the model. Without this systematic and comprehensive approach PHS found the resulting implementation could be problematic.

CONCLUSION:
In developing and employing a systematic approach to recruitment and implementation an Immunization Registry will grow and be successful.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
To better understand an implementation model and the steps necessary to ensure the successful recruitment and implementation of hospital based health care systems.
