BACKGROUND:
Immunization registries may be the logical repositories for data collected during mass prophylaxis events.
OBJECTIVE:
1. Identify immunization registry manager EPR training needs
2. Determine scope of use of registries in EPR
3. Garner best practices from registries being leveraged for EPR
METHOD:
Registries nationwide were invited to participate in web-based EPR survey. Fifty-two registries responded to questions about registry use for EPR and training needs. Descriptive statistics were calculated through tools integrated in a web-based survey tool. Additional statistical analysis was performed using Excel.
RESULT:
Immunization registries (rather than PVS) were used by 23% (12) of respondents for Phase I smallpox vaccination tracking. However, only 28% (14) of respondents’ registries are currently integrated into their mass dispensing plans. Only 12% (6) of respondents have state laws authorizing use of registry to track antibiotics, however, 19% (10) plan to use their registry to track SNS administration. Within the past two years, 65% (32) of respondents indicated that they or their staff received EPR training, while 92% (48) indicated interest in future EPR training.
CONCLUSION:
Immunization registries can be a vital component of EPR infrastructure when allowed by law. Registry managers are interested in registry integration with EPR, and are seeking additional learning opportunities to support their EPR-related activities.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
· Understand how registries are being used for EPR around the nation
· Understand criteria for suitability of registry use for EPR in service area
· Identify next steps for participation in state/local EPR if appropriate
