BACKGROUND:
The Colorado Immunization Information System is a web-based statewide immunization registry. To better manage and assess a major expansion phase, a progress tracking system was implemented.

OBJECTIVE:
To determine what clinic attributes contribute to successful implementation and effective use of the registry

METHOD:
Using MS Access, a progress tracking system was developed to document both process and outcome measures over time for all participating sites. Successful implementation and effective use were measured by higher Up-To-Date rates and steady or increasing registry utilization. Clinic attributes assessed included how long the clinic had used the registry for live data entry (in days), clinic size (number of providers), and office type (pediatric, family practice, community health, public health, and public health nursing service). Access queries linking various data sets were imported into SAS and analysis included correlation analysis, linear regression, multiple regression and ANOVA. Results of the evaluation of assumptions lead to reducing the number of outliers.

RESULT:
Of the clinic attributes studies, office type (R2=0.55, p>. 0001) and clinic size (R=.53, p<.0001) contributed significantly to prediction of the change in number of services entered weekly over a six-month period. Of the office types, pediatric sites had higher utilization than family practice, community health, public health or public health nursing. Up-to-date rates did not significantly correlate to any of the clinic attributes.

CONCLUSION:
Sites with attributes associated with less effective registry utilization measures (non-pediatric office type and small office size) could be targeted for increased implementation assistance.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Participants will be able to describe the advantages and methods for tracking and evaluating registry utilization over time.
