BACKGROUND:
According to the 2003 Immunization Registry Annual Report (IRAR) registry data, 31 population-based registries reported 39% participating children between the ages of 19 to 35 months as being up-to-date (UTD) on the 4:3:3:1:3 series. Also, 21% participating children between the ages of 19 to 35 months are not UTD and one dose away from being UTD on the 4:3:3:1:3 series.
OBJECTIVE:
• Identify operational/technical processes that may affect coverage levels in grantees
• How registry data can be used to tailor strategies, such as reminder recall, to improve coverage rates
METHOD:
Immunization coverage data were analyzed from the 2002 and 2003 IRAR. Data from population-based registries were analyzed to identify states ten states with more than 25% and five states less than 10% children between the ages of 19 to 35 months who are not UTD and one dose away from being UTD on the 4:3:3:1:3 series. An email questionnaire was sent to the states to assess operational/technical issues on coverage rates. The assessment identifies barriers as well as provide examples on how some states have been able to improve their coverage rates.
RESULT:
Results will be discussed during the session to address the Objectives above.
CONCLUSION:
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
• How IRAR data can be used by immunization program managers to make program and policy decisions at the state and local levels
• Provide an overview on programmatic and technical issues related to immunization coverage
• Offer rationale as to why children are one dose away from UTD on the 4:3:3:1:3 series among population-based registries
