BACKGROUND:
The option of requesting Direct Assistance (DA) funding for registry enhancement has given National Immunization Program (NIP) grantees a viable option to state governed contractual processes. The main advantage of the using these DA funds is that potential contractors may be identified in a reasonably short time, contractor selection may be performed exclusive of the state contracting mechanism and work on the intended project may begin earlier than if the normal state contracting mechanism were used.

OBJECTIVE(S):
To outline the steps involved in using the Government Services Administration (GSA) contracting machanism and to give an account of the practical experience using this method of registry enhancement.

METHOD(S):
N/A

RESULT(S):
N/A

CONCLUSIONS(S):
The use of DA other funding for registry enhancement is an easy option to use and is well supported by both the Division of Data Management, NIP and GSA personnel.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
After the session, attendees should be able to know the steps involved in setting-up and executing this mechanism for registry enhancement and how to initiate it.
