E1: Smallpox: What To Do Now

Workshop will introduce the CDC strategy for evaluating a patient with a rash illness for smallpox and providing guidance to health department personnel, clinical staff and others on the approach to surveillance for smallpox and the response to any high risk suspected cases. In addition, presenters will discuss the vaccine, its side effects and current issues with vaccination against smallpox.
Learning Objectives: Describe the features of smallpox that help differentiate it from other causes of rash illness.
