The New Vaccine Surveillance Network (NVSN) was established by CDC in collaboration with the University of Rochester and Vanderbilt University to evaluate the impact of new vaccines in a community population-based infrastructure. Results for 2000-01 will be presented on the epidemiology and etiology of serious acute respiratory infections in young children, burden of medical events possibly impacted by pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, and feasibility of implementing universal influenza vaccination of young children.
Learning Objectives: Understand the burden of vaccine-preventable acute respiratory infections in children and the potential impact of new vaccines.
