E14: Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine

Three presentations will describe the influence of physician recommendation on pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV) acceptance, the apparent impact of PPV promotion on the rates and serotypes of invasive pneumococcal disease in a community, and an outbreak of pneumococcal pneumonia among unvaccinated nursing home residents.
Learning Objectives: The participant will be able to name an effective strategy for increasing PPV acceptance and will be able to describe the difference between the pneumonia attack rates in vaccinated and unvaccinated nursing home residents during an outbreak.
