C12: GPRA 2003: Moving Toward the Future

The Government Performance and Results Act was established to improve the accountability of all federal agencies. Improving the percent of fully immunized 2 year olds enrolled in Medicaid is one of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services major GPRA goals. This goal focused not only on improving the immunization coverage levels of 2 year old Medicaid beneficiaries but also, established collaborative partnerships with other federal, state and local agencies and organizations that are involved in improving the coverage level of childhood immunizations. All states and the District of Columbia have been involved in this project. The project was initiated over 3 years beginning in 1999 and is 5 years in length. The Group I states will be concluding the project in 2003. What have the first of the GPRA groups learned? How can these lessons be applied to the remaining two groups? Finally, what the future holds for this type of performance measure and quality improvement project will be discussed.
Learning Objectives: The participants will be able to identify 3 lessons learned from the Group I GPRA states that could be used to assist the remaining two GPRA groups in the project.
