E5: Impact of Delays in Influenza Vaccine Distribution in the United States, 2000 and 2001

Using data collected from vaccine manufacturers and from a variety of surveys, presenters will (1) briefly describe the delays in distribution of influenza vaccine in the U.S. in 2000 and 2001, (2) review the impact of the delays on local public health department influenza vaccination program operations, and (3) summarize the differences in consumer beliefs about influenza vaccination when vaccine is plentiful and distributed on schedule versus when vaccine distribution is delayed.
Learning Objectives: Workshop attendees should be better prepared to manage future delays in distribution of influenza vaccine if they occur. They should also understand how such delays can influence consumer beliefs about vaccination.
