AFIX and ASIIS (Arizona Immunization Information System) - "A Great Partnership"

Andie Denious and Jennifer Ralston Roll. Arizona Immunization Program Office, Arizona Department of Health Services, 150 N. 18th Ave, Suite 120, Phoenix, AZ, USA

BACKGROUND:
AFIX visits were labor-intensive. During the AFIX review of immunization records of two year olds in a provider practice, immunization dates were transcribed by AFIX staff for data input after the visit. Results were mailed to the providers 2+ weeks later.

OBJECTIVE:
Improve the efficiency of AFIX visits by utilizing registry data to assess records prior to the visit, thus minimizing the number of records to review.

METHOD:
Immunization records of a provider's 24-35 month old patients are exported from the registry, and imported into CASA to generate a missing immunizations list. The list is sent to the provider with a request to include those files for review at the AFIX visit. When records are reviewed, additional immunization dates are entered into CASA onsite via laptop. Dates missing from the registry but found in office records are reported to the registry for input. Preliminary feedback is given to the provider before leaving the office, and a follow-up letter with CASA reports and graphs is sent to the provider within two weeks of the visit.

RESULT:
The AFIX process is improved and streamlined for providers and AFIX staff. In addition to a detailed written report within 2 weeks, the incomplete records are brought up-to-date, and providers receive on-site, real-time feedback.

CONCLUSION:
Immunization records in provider offices and in the registry are more complete and current preventing unnecessary immunizations and benefiting providers and children they serve.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
·Utilize registry data to complete immunization records in provider offices.
·Complete registry records by reporting dates found in office records
·Improve efficiency and quality of AFIX visits
