Learning Objectives for this Presentation:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to identify and conduct web conferencing activities on immunization information systems (IIS) for health care providers and registry users.

Background:

Health care providers, potential registry users and current IIS users can take advantage of web conferencing resources for registry trainings. This method saves driving time, gas, and lets participants learn in the comfort of their own offices.

Setting:

Local, county, regional and state

Population:

Health care providers, new and current registry users

Project Description:

IIS programs have limited staffing resources to dedicate to new user trainings. Some health care provider organizations have numerous staff to train, numerous clinic or office sites, and/or regular turnover of ancillary office staff that would be using the registry. Distance learning tools such as web-conferencing should be employed. Telephone trainings are the most common; however teleconference trainings plus web-conferencing allows the trainer and users to keep their screens synchronized. For health care provider offices in remote areas, web-conferencing can conserve staff time and prevent emotional or physical wear and tear both on the trainers and their vehicles.

Results/Lessons Learned:

Physicians in a large medical group signed up more readily for registry training via web-conferencing, since they could participate from the comfort of their offices. Immunization and IIS programs can more efficiently allocate their staff time and resources to train and update community-based providers by taking advantage of web-conferencing.
