Model of Vacman and Immunization Information Systems Integration

Michael Spurchise, Partners In Health Systems, PO Box 249, 5789 Widewaters Parkway, Dewitt, NY, USA

Learning Objectives for this Presentation:
By the end of the presentation participants will be able to:
1. Understand the opportunities through information systems to improve processes in vaccine distribution and accountability.

Background:
For the past 7 years, Partners in Health Systems has supported efforts in New York State to develop and deploy an immunization registry . Since 2003, Partners in Health Systems has worked with New York State VFC program to review the requirements for vaccine ordering and distribution and to modify Vacman to streamline order processing, add systems of controls for vaccine distribution and enhance system accountability. With the unique experience and knowledge of both vaccine distribution and immunization registries, Partners in Health Systems has modeled areas of integration between these information systems to tighten controls and accountability. This abstract discusses those integration concepts

Objectives:
Conceptualize a model of data exchange with Vacman(v3.1) and an Immunization Registry application to improve processes in the ordering, distribution and accountability of vaccine.

Methods:
Discuss a model, via structured walk-through, of data flow between provider, VFC program, and distributor using Vacman(v3.1) and an Immunization Information System application.

Results:
Discuss a model, via structured walk-through, of data flow between provider, VFC program, and distributor using Vacman(v3.1) and an Immunization Information System application.

Conclusions:
Integration between Vacman(v3.1) and an IIS application can improve process, reducing cost and increasing accountability across programs
