F5: Newly-Recognized Risks of Oral Polio Vaccine — United States, 2005

Presenters in this workshop will discuss two recent events that highlight this risk of poliovirus infection: 1) the occurrence of vaccine-associated paralytic polio in an unimmunized college student, and 2) the circulation of a vaccine-derived poliovirus in an Amish community. The implications of these events for US polio vaccination policy and surveillance will be discussed.
