Learning Objectives for this Presentation:
By the end of the presentation participants will be able to: Describe how to plan a statewide, retail-focused influenza vaccination campaign,
Identify appropriate stakeholders, and
Define long-term goals for mobilizing retail partnerships.
Background:
Washington State's influenza immunization rates for adults 18 and older are equivalent to the national average and have not significantly increased over the last few years. In order to move towards Healthy People 2010 goals for influenza vaccination, the Washington State Department of Health is collaborating with the Washington State Lottery to increase public awareness of the importance of flu vaccinations and mobilize partnerships with retail organizations that increase access to flu vaccinations.
Setting:
The Washington State Lottery has business relationships with large retail organizations across Washington State. These organizations possess the infrastructure to serve a high volume of clients and are locations frequented by multiple segments of the adult population.
Population:
Washington State adults who should be receiving influenza vaccinations.
Project Description:
The Washington State Department of Health and the Washington State Lottery are mobilizing existing relationships with the largest retail organizations in the State to increase access to influenza vaccinations and develop a statewide influenza vaccination campaign.
Results/Lessons Learned:
Encouraging collaboration between competing retail organizations is difficult. One of the most important strategies to success in this type of partnership is involving all appropriate stakeholders, including traditional immunization providers, from the beginning.
