Learning Objectives for this Presentation:
1. Describe the organizing framework for the Healthy People 2020 objectives
2. List the overarching goals for Healthy People 2020.
3. Articulate the process for participating in the development of the Healthy People 2020 objectives with regard to immunization and infectious disease.

Background:
As the end of first decade of the 21st century approaches, the US Department of Health and Human Services has initiated the development of the next set of national disease prevention and health promotion objectives (Healthy People 2020). HHS has proposed a framework and process designed to ensure that the fourth generation of the Healthy People initiative continues to be scientifically valid, relevant and sustainable and fosters cooperation and commitment of both the public and private sectors. The proposed framework builds on the findings of an independent assessment on how best to achieve these aims and reflects input from a diverse group of public health professionals.

Setting:
State and local public health settings.

Population:
All communities.

Project Description:
The session has two components. During opening presentations participants will hear from HHS and CDC officials about the Healthy People 2020 process, and public engagement efforts to date. The second component of the session is a moderated listening session to offer Healthy People 2020 architects immunization and infectious disease focused feedback for consideration for the next generation of Healthy People 2020 goals an objectives. CDC leadership will open the listening session with some insights into immunization and infectious disease issues. Closing remarks will ensure the audience is aware of how their feedback will be captured, analyzed, and used to inform Healthy People 2020.

Results/Lessons Learned:
Public health professionals will become engaged in the development of Healthy People 2020 objectives that will impact program development and implementation for years to come.
