Learning Objectives for this Presentation:
By the end of the presentation participants will be able to:
1.Identify possible agencies to recruit for expansion of IIS in local area.
2.Improve knowledge of potential increased functionality within IIS.
Background:
ImmuLink, the IIS serving the Twin Cities Metro area, has developed and evolved since its creation in 1995. ImmuLink's initial focus was clinic recruitment. In 2004, ImmuLink was merged with the Minnesota Immunization Information Connection (MIIC), the new statewide IIS. Since MIIC has become a mature registry, it was time to enhance its use. Today, ImmuLink is beginning to expand the types of users accessing the registry and improve how the registry can be utilized for a variety of job functions. The ImmuLink region has enhanced its recruitment efforts by focusing on child care centers, long-term care facilities, and community agencies. By developing these community partnerships, MIIC functionality has also expanded.
Setting:
Various public health settings including clinics, schools, child care centers, long-term care facilities, community agencies, and pharmacies.
Population:
Communities that could utilize an IIS.
Project Description:
Public health professionals are provided with a brief presentation that will increase knowledge on how a mature registry can be expanded. The presenter will use a series of examples from the local area to help participants: 1) be challenged to think about how they can expand IIS use in their area; 2) develop possible functionality improvements of current IIS.
Results/Lessons Learned:
Public health professionals who receive ideas and examples of enhancing a mature registry will become more aware of how they can improve IIS use in the communities they serve. This awareness can help prevent disease, protect health, save time and money.
