Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Dean Ripple joined the Thermometry Group in 1994 and has served as Group Leader since 2000. His research interests include: * development of high-temperature acoustic thermometry as a primary standard; * characterization and development of pure-element thermocouples; * development of new humidity standards; and * studies on the drift and uncertainty of thermocouples. He is an author of over 30 papers on thermometry and hygrometry. In support of practical measurements, he has delivered workshops to ASTM committees for petroleum products and paving materials, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Ripple participates actively in standards development for ASTM, ASME, and NCSLI in the fields of thermometry and metrology for health care. He is also the U.S. delegate for the Consultative Committee for Thermometry (CCT) and chairs the task group responsible for recommending realizations of the kelvin.
