Biographical Sketch:
Mr. Velázquez is a Project Director for HMA Associates, where he is responsible for developing campaign partnerships within the public, private, and non-profit sectors and served as a project director for social marketing campaigns with federal, state and DC government agencies. His expertise in the Hispanic community makes him expert at identifying markets with on-the-ground activities. He has provided technical assistance and capacity building services to a large network of Latino-serving agencies and health departments throughout the US and abroad. Mr. Velázquez has served as a senior administrator and executive with nonprofit organizations in Nevada, Minnesota, and Washington, DC. Within the context of the nonprofit world he has a proven track record as a master trainer, community organizer, curriculum writer, and program manager. He has presented papers, workshops, and keynotes addresses at conferences throughout the US and abroad and his research and social commentaries appear in various publications including Habitus: The Journal of Education and Theory and Cultural Studies and the Spanish magazines, Impacto and SIDA Ahora. Mr. Velázquez recently completed research in Belize and the Dominican Republic for the Panamerican Health Organization entitled: Una Evaluación Externa e Integral de la Respuesta del Sistema Nacional de Salud: Un Análisis de la Capacidad de Recursos Humanos. He was the executive producer of a documentary that chronicled the Latino response to the HIV crisis in the US. He is currently working on implementing outreach strategies for the Hispanic community for H1N1 vaccine uptake. He earned a Bachelors of Art in Education from the University of Nevada and Masters of Art in Communication Studies from the University of the Pacific. He also conducted post-graduate research at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia and the University of Oregon.
