Dr. Middleman started her research in immunizations during her fellowship at Harvard University. She examined adolescent compliance with the hepatitis B immunization and the resulting titer levels after off-schedule administration. She has since published multiple articles pertaining to hepatitis B immunization, school-based immunization programs, and various adolescent health risk behaviors. Recently, she has been working with multiple community immunization agencies to use existing infrastructure to immunize children in middle schools with a high proportion of students requiring the free lunch program. Dr. Middleman also serves as: the Director of Adolescent and Young Adult Immunization for the Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Awareness and Research; a member on the editorial board for Infectious Disease News and Infectious Diseases in Children; and a speaker to multiple constituencies about immunizations. She is currently conducting research on the duration of protection of hepatitis B vaccine in adolescents and school-based immunization initiatives for influenza and other vaccines.
