Monique Lyle received her BS from Morgan State University in Health Administration and has worked in public health in Maryland for thirteen years. Bringing a rare blend of communications and administrative strengths, Lyle has held positions with the Baltimore City Health Department as the Public Information Officer, Director of Emergency Preparedness Training and Education, and Assistant Director of the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. While in Baltimore City, Lyle used her public relations experience to begin dialogue about emergency preparedness issues between Maryland hospitals and local health department Public Information Officers, by hosting statewide emergency preparedness conferences and trainings. Additionally, she served as a vital member of the executive planning committee for the nationally-recognized Harbor BASE I and III—full-scale emergency preparedness exercises that took place in the Baltimore metropolitan area in 2003 and 2004. Now as the Public Information Officer for the Baltimore County Department of Health, Lyle has spent the last three years utilizing her experience from previously-held positions to develop strategic partnerships and communication tools to support a wide variety of initiatives in Baltimore County. Recently, Lyle has played a critical communications role in the County’s H1N1 vaccination efforts by: • Coordinating an H1N1 community planning summit for public health professionals • Launching an on-line appointment system for receiving the H1N1 vaccine • Communicating to and with the public regarding the H1N1 vaccine using technology Lyle is currently working with the Department’s leadership team to develop an H1N1 vaccination campaign to target underrepresented populations, and to remind everyone that they can reduce the spread of the virus by getting the vaccine.
