Biographical Sketch:
Tim Church is the director of communications for the Washington State Department of Health and the immediate past president of the National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC). He oversees department communications including media relations, risk communications, employee communications, publications, and web content. Tim has an extensive communications background. He graduated from Washington State University’s Edward R. Murrow School of Communication with a degree in broadcast journalism and worked in television news for almost 15 years. He’s been a news writer, on-air reporter, producer, and managing editor. He’s also served as a public information officer for the Washington State Senate.
Tim believes all communication should be clear, easy to understand, and avoid acronyms and “government speak.” He feels that working with reporters should always be looked at as an opportunity to help the public better understand what we do in public health and how it affects their daily lives. He volunteers for the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA, and is a native of Washington’s Puget Sound area.
