Previous to teaching, worked for over ten years as a Medicare home health nurse assisting with flu and pneumonia immunizations.
Teaching at the University of Oklahoma College of Nursing since 1997 specializing in teaching evidence-based practice (EBP) and best practices in clinical skills. Taught and participated in student immunization clinics for over ten years. Worked as a Medicaid case manager while teaching and coordinated immunizations for homebound, older clients.
Currently Academic and Staff Developer in the Continuing Professional Development department since 2005.
Nationally recognized by the National League for Nursing as a Certified Nurse Educator and board certified in Case Management from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Grant funding history includes federal grant funding through FEMA for the development of the Oklahoma Nurses Association, Medical Reserve Corps; through this grant, helped develop statewide nursing response for emergencies and disasters and developed education modules for mass immunization events. Currently, co-Principal Investigator and Content and Technology Developer of NIP-IT, Nursing Initiative Promoting Immunization Training, a cooperative agreement through the CDC and the OU College of Nursing.
Experienced in hypertext markup (html) coding and has developed web sites as well as learning objects for both academic and continuing education courses.
Author of several articles and book chapters on laboratory skills and medication administration.
Presented at scientific meetings at state, national and international levels.
