Biographical Sketch:
Judith McDivitt is the director of the National Diabetes Education Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). From 2007-2009, she was the associate director for Translation and Dissemination in CDC's Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity (DNPAO). She was responsible for coordinating activities to translate and disseminate science into evidence-based public health interventions, messages and products. From 1999-2007, she was the lead of the Nutrition and Physical Activity Communication Team in DNPAO, where she oversaw health communication and social marketing research, planning, implementation and evaluation activities. Prior to coming to CDC, Dr. McDivitt was an Assistant Professor of Health Education and Communication at the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, teaching courses in health communication, social marketing, evaluation, survey research and behavioral science. From 1985-1993, she evaluated child survival health communication and social marketing campaigns in West Africa, Jordan and Indonesia, first as a Senior Research Associate at a private consulting company in California then as a Research Assistant Professor at the Annenburg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her Ph.D. in communication from the Annenberg School of Communication, University of Pennsylvania, in 1985.
