Biographical Sketch:
James B. “Jim” Weaver, III (BS, MA, University of Georgia; PhD Indiana University; MPH, Emory University) is a Senior Health Communication Scientist in the Office of the Associate Director for Communication at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Jim has authored or co-authored over 56 refereed research articles, 23 book chapters, and 1 book. Recent publications include “Profiling characteristics of internet medical information users” published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association and “Health-risk correlates of video-game playing among adults” in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Weaver is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences and has won 11 “Top Paper” awards. He has testified about his research before committees of the United States Senate and the Parliament of Australia and has won several research awards including a H. Frank Guggenheim Foundation grant and the 2009 Outstanding Health Marketing Scientist award. Jim is a member of Phi Beta Delta and Kappa Tau Alpha honorary societies. Jim’s program of research is currently focused on examining health corollaries of traditional and new media use behavior.
