Biographical Sketch:
Miguel Gomez is the Director of AIDS.gov and launched AIDS.gov which serves as an information gateway to drive traffic to Federal domestic information and resources. Mr. Gomez works across HHS to increase the utilization of new technologies to promote HHS agencies programs, policies and resources.
Miguel Gomez has worked combating HIV/AIDS for twenty-three years. From 1998 to 2006, he was the Director of the Office of HIV/AIDS Policy's The Leadership Campaign on AIDS (TLCA), which was created by the Office of the Secretary for Health. TLCA works to build leadership in communities of color for effectively fighting the spread of HIV through education, coalition building and support. TLCA is a program of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS.)
Mr. Gomez began his work as an advocate in 1984 at the National Gay Rights Lobby (GRNL), which provided services and support to some of the first AIDS service organizations in the nation. After leaving GRNL, Mr. Gomez became the first field director at AIDS Action. In 1988, he became director of AIDS programs at the National Council of La Raza, the nation’s premier Latino civil rights organization.
Mr. Gomez went to work with the Federal government in 1991. As the director of the Ryan White Technical Assistance Contract Program at the Health Resources and Services Administration, this program provided direct technical assistance to more than 200 service providers and planning committees nationwide funded under the Ryan White CARE Act.
Mr. Gomez is a founding member of the National Minority AIDS Council and AIDS Action Foundation. He recently completed a four year lay theologies program and volunteers locally with people living with HIV in hospice in D.C.
