C7: C-7 Role of College Health Services in Preconception Care
As college students transition from adolescence into adulthood, they are faced with a myriad of behavioral and health care choices that can impact their current and future health. Addressing preconception health in the context of routine college health services affords an important opportunity for a prevention-oriented approach to reducing adverse outcomes and promoting healthy behaviors over the course of a lifetime. The purpose of this session is to 1) describe the health and behavioral characteristics of college students; 2) demonstrate the role of college health services in the promotion of preconception health and health care; and 3) identify potential areas for collaboration between college health services and local public health agencies whereby community-wide preconception health and birth outcomes may be improved.
