B7: B-7 Setting the national research agenda for preconception health and health care

This will be a moderated discussion session with the goal of beginning to outline a national research agenda for preconception health and healthcare. The outline developed in this session will broadly identify the research critical questions that need to be answered to determine how we can best improve maternal and child health. The session will include brief presentations on the clinical service, public health, and consumer research agendas that have been developed through the working groups over the past 18 months. After the brief description of the work done on developing a research agenda to date there will be an open discussion on research topics, priorities, and points of linkage across the domains. The issues of community engagement and policy implications will be critical to include in the development of the research agenda. The session will conclude with the discussant summarizing and suggesting an initial outline. This session will not focus on building consensus regarding topics or priorities as much as having a dialogue on what research needs to be done. The results of this session will serve as an initial guide for potential funding agencies and investigators to consider when developing future research programs. It is expected that the session will facilitate the identification and discussion between potential research collaborators. The results of this session will serve as a springboard for further discussions specifying the research agenda in more detail.
