D4: D-4 Promoting and Motivating Preconception Care: Four Innovative Models

Major challenges in preconception care are motivating women to establish and maintain healthy behaviors and helping providers to access and provide needed information to women in their care. Presentations will focus on innovative strategies to help insure healthy birth outcomes. Speakers will discuss a multifaceted educational and social marketing approach to enable providers to promote folic acid consumption, a community-based outreach model to inform women and their providers about folic acid to prevent NTDs, a state and local collaborative effort to promote healthy weight before conception, and a toolkit of resources for providers and consumers to reduce adverse birth outcomes.
