A2: A-2 Maximizing Health While Avoiding Unplanned Pregnancy
During five-sixths of a woman’s reproductive life span, clinical care focuses on maximizing health while avoiding pregnancy. In the U.S., several indicators suggest the need for service improvement. One-half of pregnancies are unintended, and about one-half of these are terminated by abortion. Prevalence of contraception among women not wanting to be pregnant is declining. Workshop presenters will discuss approaches to reversing these trends, including optimizing pregnancy planning post abortion, and screening in primary care and family planning clinics to identify women in greater need of intensive pregnancy avoidance counseling.
